Serie Comoy's

Comoy's is the oldest, continuously operating manufacturer of briar pipes in the world. Francois Comoy began making clay pipes in France in 1825. In 1848 his son Louis was one of the first to adopt briar for his pipemaking artistry. In 1879 Louis' son Henri moved the family briar-making business to London, thereby establishing Comoy's as one of the premier briar pipemakers of that city.
Today, more than 150 years and five generations later, Comoy's continues in the tradition of providing excellent pipes, and many of their old pipes are collectable.
Comoy's of London pipes are good smokers, crafted in the finest tradition of the legendary artisans of the past.


Henri Comoy had served in the French army during the 1870/71 Franco-Prussian War and was interned with the remnants of the army of the General Bourbaki in Switzerland. To pass the time away, he made Pipes. He later spent three years in Belgium, also making pipes before going to England. He was one of the prime movers in the establishment of the briar pipe trade in London and is credited with being the 'author' of the appellation "London Made". Helped at first by his brothers, he was later joined, around 1891, by two of his nephews, Lois and Charles Chapuis who came from Switzerland. By that time, the Comoy factory was well estblished in Newcastle Place, Clarkenwell, although soon after, a new factory was built on Rosebury Avenue. Before the 1914/18 war, Hen Comoy was also joined by his sons, Adrien and Paul. From the start, Henry Comoy was proud to stamp his name on his pipes.

Alla bella cifra di 10 euro, mercatino paesano, non è comprata male, anche se ho sudato per restituirla agli antichi splendori... :wink:

le Grand Slam erano molto apprezzate e lodate dal mitico Giovanni Turchetto, fumatore senza fronzoli ed espertissimo nelle questioni tecniche della pipa. La sua modestia oggi dovrebbe essere un richiamo per i troppi soloni che distillano scienza infusa con altera autoconsiderazione.

Detto questo, le Grand Slam sono la serie entry o media?
